El triunfo de Rafael Nadal en el Masters 1.000 de Roma asegura al de Manacor el número uno del mundo al menos tres semanas más: hasta el final de Roland Garros, torneo en el que no puede ganar puntos, porque defiende los 2.000 correspondientes al título que consiguió el año pasado, el décimo de su carrera.

Rafael Nadal suma en la actualidad 8.770 puntos. Su margen sobre Roger Federer, segundo clasificado, es de un centenar de puntos. Federer, sin embargo, no estará presente en Roland Garros dado que ha dejado pasar de nuevo toda la temporada europea de tierra batida. Como no estuvo tampoco el año pasado en el Grand Slam parisino no empezará a sumar ni perder puntos hasta la temporada de hierba. En ella debe hacer frente a los 2.500 puntos de los títulos de Wimbledon y el ATP 500 de Halle.
